TIP model

Roblyer (2006) developed The Technology Integration Planning (TIP) model. TIP model start with what we want the students to learn and how they will demonstrate their learning.

Wheadon’s (2011) adapted five phased TIP model

1. Define relative advantage
2. Decide on objectives and assessments
3. Define integration strategies
4. Prepare the instructional environment
5. Revise integration strategies

From the above, we can clearly see that it is always vital to ask questions which keep us focus on why ICT is being integrated into the children’s activities and how does it help children learning. If the integration of ICT does not improve children learning but it just act as a substitution then the integration of ICT does not success.

Birthday Party!

Woow! Today my prac school celebrate birthday for children and teacher who are born in May! All children gathering on the floor and parents are welcome to join the birthday party. The school prepared 2 huge cakes and food for everyone and parents also brought some food to school. I feel the school is so warming and welcoming. The school welcome May baby to sing the song ‘here we go round the sun’ then ‘birthday song’. After that is party time. Children will queue up to get their food and enjoy the meal with their peers and parents. Some teacher makes pattern balloons, face painting and storytelling. The birthday party started at 11.30am-12.50pm. Then, children packed away and get ready to go home.

Classroom Blog

After 1 week of practicum, my mentor said they have a classroom blog in Facebook for this particular classroom. She added me in the classroom blog. The parents in my class have good involvement in the Facebook. They are sharing many education articles, their experiences, school field trip and the children photos in school. They teacher also remind the parents to bring certain things to school through facebook. They also have a guest teacher list, where parents can put in the name and date to become a guest teacher in school. Guest teacher are welcome to tell story, sing song, baking or share their collection, etc. My mentor told me that I am welcome to fill in the Guest Teacher list after I finish my practicum.

One of the parents shared this blog which inspired and gives me lots of ideas in planning lessons http://learningandteachingwithpreschoolers.blogspot.com/p/classroom-environment.html

Practicum

This is my 4th day of prac. I was very happy that I can cope well with the children. The lesson plans that I planned is going on smoothly, of course there are some obstacle. I need to improve my classroom management skills. Some children in my class does not know how to use MS Word, however, I can see their improvement in using MS word.

My mentor is very friendly, most of the time she will help and guide me during my prac. Sometimes, she helps me in my class management too. Now, I am planning for my next week lesson. I was thinking using video camera in my next lesson

I came across Elaine’s blog, she posted 10 Great Ways to Use Digital Video Cameras in the Classroom, and this gives me ideas in planning my next lesson.

The mentor brings us around the school and tells us about the school rules, routines and our job scope. We also get to see how the teacher teaching their student.

During the visit, one of the teachers inspired me where she uses the projector to tell a story – 3 little bears. It was so interesting, the children and I was sitting there quietly listen to her until the end of the story. The teacher first recorded the background sounds and scan the storybook in the computer and she tells the story using different voice and tunes and added in the background sounds promptly. I can’t wait to go for practicum on Monday!

Math Apps

I came across Sanna’s blog that she shared about the benefit of using Phonics application to enhance children’s phonics. I also read about Vivian’s blog that she shared an app – Disney Princess. This app helps student to practice and reinforce their speaking, listening and creativity skills through this digital storytelling. Both of them shared very interesting and good apps that help students learn in the fun ways.
